Description:
This is a fine quality antique Art Deco dressing table, constructed from figured and burr walnut, comprising 7 drawers, with a central adjustable round mirror, circa 1930, in excellent original condition. The Art Deco vanity table boasts its original circular mirror which is in good condition.
The mirror is supported by a pair of vertical wooden bars that screw to the back of the dressing table. The mirror can be removed for safe transport or access in the house and up the stairs. The Art Deco pedestal dressing table base incorporates a central sunken well; the top is decorated in mirror-matched burr walnut timbers and the there is a large drawer below - ideal for storing makeup. The central well is flanked by two rectangular pedestals, each housing three deep drawers. The middle pedestal drawer front is decorated with lovely cross-banded walnut, flanked by figured walnut sections. The drawer fronts retain their original quality solid brass Art Deco brass and walnut handles, and the drawers are constructed with solid drawer linings. The Art Deco pedestal dressing table is raised on a recessed plinth base and retains its original backboards. There is a manufacturers’ label on the back of the antique vanity table, which provides a lovely provenance of this item. It reads “J. H. Stringer Ltd., Manufacturing Furnishers, Stourbridge.
Condition Report:
The round mirror in good original condition, with minor spots of foxing visible to some areas (see photo). “Foxing” is a term used to describe silvering in antique mirrors that has deteriorated and turned misty, or appears to have tarnished in areas. Light “foxing” serves to demonstrate the pleasing patina of age. We did not feel it warranted replacing the mirror, as the foxing is only very minor a it nd was best to keep the dressing table original.
