We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Neoclassical watercolours are defined by subjects drawn from classical antiquity, mythology, and allegorical themes. They emphasize clean draftsmanship, balanced compositions, restrained colour palettes, and draped figures reminiscent of Greco-Roman sculpture.

Artisans used natural pigment washes applied to rag paper, which was often mounted onto card backing. Frames were constructed from carved wood or composition plaster applied over timber, then finished with gold leaf gilding and glass glazing.

Authentic period watercolours display natural signs of age such as minor foxing, paper toning, and delicate pigment fading under glass. Inspecting the reverse for hand-forged hanging hardware, period framing labels, and aged backing boards provides further evidence of age.

A classical watercolour can be positioned above a console or incorporated into a mixed-era gallery wall alongside contemporary line drawings. The soft pastel shades and gilded frame contrast effectively against modern muted paint shades or dark, dramatic backdrops.

Keep watercolours away from direct sunlight and sources of heat to prevent pigment fading and paper degradation. Ensure the artwork is mounted using acid-free materials behind UV-protective glass, maintaining a stable humidity level in the room.
