Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian mahogany double wardrobe is a two-door storage cabinet manufactured during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901). These pieces typically feature flame mahogany veneers, arched panel doors, and robust plinth bases designed for generous clothing storage.

Victorian wardrobes were commonly crafted using solid pine or oak carcases covered with mahogany or flame mahogany veneers. Hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hinges, and mortise and tenon joinery were standard construction techniques of the period.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature period-correct joinery, such as hand-cut dovetails on internal drawers, original cast brass hardware, and natural hand-planed signs of age on the back boards. Book-matched flame mahogany door panels with subtle symmetry are also characteristic.

A Victorian double wardrobe provides significant visual weight and warm timber tones in a bedroom or dressing room. Pairing the piece with neutral wall finishes and contemporary lighting balances the dark wood finish, creating a grounded focal point.

Dust the wood surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Keep the wardrobe away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber movement or veneer cracking.
