Pair of Signed Chinese Shan Shui Silk Paintings in Original Frames

A decorative matching pair of mid-20th-century Chinese "Shan Shui" (mountain-water) landscape paintings, executed in monochrome ink and delicate colour washes on traditional fine woven silk. We believe that they are circa 1960, at the latest, and they are held in their original unopened frames.

These original pieces are fine examples of classical atmospheric artistry tailored for the mid-century international market. 

The compositions showcase traditional ink brush techniques. One picture features a sweeping weeping willow tree over a quiet river edge (cursive brush signature and a coordinating red artist seal) while the second one exhibits soft mountain peaks receding into the mist, accented by a flock of birds (cursive brush signature and a coordinating red artist seal).

Both artworks are identically housed in their original period dark wood frames, elevated by gold-gilt metallic inner liners.

Presented in very good condition. The silk panels exhibit a uniform cream-coloured age patination. As is entirely standard for hand-mounted silk textiles on paper backings, there are some minor, localized horizontal paper ripples and creases visible under certain lighting conditions, which occurred during the traditional mounting process. The frames remain structurally sound with minor surface wear and edge rubbing consistent with age. Ready to hang as a balanced pair.
