Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late 19th-century English country house dresser base belongs to the late 19th-century period and is constructed from painted wood finished in a terracotta pink shade, fitted with brass hardware. The long, low framework stands on turned legs connected by a low box stretcher running along the base. Five drawers span the front, each decorated with geometric mouldings and secured with round brass knob handles. Simple decorative mouldings run along the top edge and beneath the drawer section, while the surfaces show a muted painted finish. The piece measures 84.5 cm high, 160 cm wide, and 55.5 cm deep. It serves as a practical storage unit for hallways, living rooms, or dining spaces, providing surface display and drawer capacity in a traditional English interior.

FAQs

An English painted dresser base is a long, low item of storage furniture originating in rural Britain, featuring drawers set above turned or straight legs, often finished with painted surfaces for kitchen or dining use.

Dresser bases were typically constructed from native European hardwoods such as oak or softwoods like pine, held together with mortise and tenon joinery, and fitted with brass or turned wooden handles.

Authenticity can be determined by inspecting hand-cut drawer dovetails, uneven secondary timber surfaces on the reverse, historical saw marks, and legitimate wear patterns on foot rails and drawer runners.

A painted dresser base functions well as an entryway console table, a living room media credenza, or a dining room serving station, balancing contemporary wall art with historical woodwork.

Preserve painted finishes by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, keeping the item away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement, and avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners.
