Gents 1950s Festina Automatic Wrist Watch

1940 - 1960
Description

Gents 1950s Festina automatic wrist watch.

The watch has a 57 jewel automatic movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Festina.

Festina was founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, focusing on watch assembly (hence buying in movements from the ebauche manufacturer ETA).

The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition, just some marking around the edge of the case back, probably where a tool has been used in the past. The case back is signed with the Festina name. It also states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in its original finish with original hands, centre seconds hand and date display… this is an early form of quickset date whereby you turn the hands clockwise until the date changes over, and then turn the hands backwards to 8.30pm and then forward again… keep going until you reach the desired date.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Declaration

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mid-century automatic wristwatches feature self-winding mechanical movements powered by the motion of the wearers arm, popularised during the 1950s for functional efficiency and classic styling.

Timepieces from this era commonly utilized stainless steel or gold-plated cases, acrylic crystals, metallic dials with applied indices, and leather straps.

Authenticity is identified by verifying manufacturer dial markings, movement jewels, case stampings, and period-accurate shock absorption systems such as Incabloc.

A vintage wristwatch can be worn as a classic wardrobe accessory or displayed inside a dressing room using a dedicated watch box, valet tray, or glass cloche.

Keep mechanical watches away from water and strong magnetic fields, store them in a dry environment, and have the mechanical movement serviced periodically by a professional watchmaker.
