This Arts and Crafts chest of drawers originates from the period around 1880 to 1900, produced by Harris Lebus of Tottenham. The piece is constructed from satinwood, presenting a warm honey brown colour with visible wood grain and a smooth polished finish. It takes the form of a rectangular chest with three long full-width drawers arranged vertically. The front elevation displays dark metal drop handles secured to each drawer face, dovetail construction joints at the corners, and a shaped apron along the lower edge that steps upward toward each side. The entire cabinet measures 83 cm high, 85 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this chest of drawers suits placement in a bedroom, hallway, or living space as a functional storage surface and display console. The compact dimensions allow it to fit comfortably against walls in smaller or larger rooms alike, providing convenient organization for clothing, linens, or household items while introducing a traditional English Country House aesthetic to the interior scheme.

The Arts and Crafts movement, emerging in the late nineteenth century, emphasised honest craftsmanship, simple construction, and the natural character of timber. Pieces often feature clean lines, exposed joinery, and functional metalwork rather than heavy surface ornamentation.

Cabinet makers during this period utilised high-quality hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, walnut, and satinwood. Drawer linings were commonly made of solid pine or oak, fitted with hand-cut dovetail joints and solid brass or copper hardware.

Harris Lebus items often feature stamped serial numbers, metal makers badges, or distinct construction hallmarks typical of the Tottenham factory. Details such as specific metal handle designs, neat dovetailing, and quality timber selection help verify authenticity.

The warm, golden hue of satinwood pairs exceptionally well with muted wall shades like olive green, navy, or plaster pink. Style the top surface with contemporary ceramics, a minimalist mirror, or framed artwork to contrast the historic timber grain.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the timber from drying or cracking.
