A CHINTZ PALAMPORE

SOUTH EAST INDIA,COROMANDEL COAST, 19TH CENTURY FOR THE SRI LANKAN MARKET.

The cotton ground printed and painted with a central tree with monkeys, exotic birds probably peacocks, an owl, mongoose,monkey with a human face,butterflies a shiva lingam shrine and with a repeat broad border of flowering shrubs and monkeys.

There has been some sympathetic repairs to each edge/border, imaged both sides and rear of it. May possibly want a wash/clean.

Very colourful and interesting one for anyone with an interest in the arts of india as a study piece and they make for great wall hangings/display or use as its original purpose as a bed cover.

18th century examples can fetch 5 figure sums when they come up for auction if you can find them.
