Walnut Kitchen Dresser or Sideboard C.1880

Description

Mid 19th.c. kitchen dresser or sideboard in walnut c.1880. Solid walnut top with a deep applied thumb moulding to the front and sides. Over a row of three drawers across the top and a small central cupboard flanked with two large drawers of graduated height on both sides. Moulded drawer fronts to the upper drawers, an arched flame mahogany and crossbanded panel to the cupboard door and original glass knobs to the larger drawers. Solid walnut sides. Thumb moulded trip around the base and raised on the original turned feet. Note how the slightly recessed centre and the taller than normal feet allow the piece to be comfortably stood at as a kitchen worktop. Some wear to the top with a couple of obvious knocks to the moulding at the front centre. Otherwise very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.

This Victorian walnut kitchen dresser or sideboard dates from around 1880. It presents a warm brown solid timber construction with a solid top, featuring a deep applied thumb moulding to the front and sides above a row of three cushion drawers. A central cupboard door with an arched flame mahogany and crossbanded panel is flanked by four large drawers fitted with original faceted glass knobs. The base has a thumb moulded trip, and the entire structure stands on original turned feet. Wear to the top includes a couple of obvious knocks to the front centre moulding, alongside very good cleaned and waxed colour and condition.
