Antique Victorian Carved Oak Sideboard

19th century
Description

A striking antique Victorian carved oak sideboard in the Charles II Revival style, richly decorated with intricate floral, foliate and geometric carved panels throughout. The raised back features three finely carved panels beneath a moulded gallery, supported by turned uprights, while the base is fitted with a pair of cupboards enclosing fixed shelves flanking a central carved panel. Below is a shaped apron and turned legs united by a stretcher. Crafted in beautifully aged dark oak, this is a highly decorative and practical piece, ideal for use as a sideboard, drinks cabinet or hall cupboard.

CONDITION REPORT:

Good overall condition, solid and sturdy throughout. There is age-related wear including surface marks, minor scratches and knocks consistent with age and use. The carved decoration remains crisp and well defined, and the interior shelves are clean and practical. There are marks and age-related splits to the plank top, as expected with a piece of this age but overall solid and sound. The oak has developed a deep, rich patina, and the piece displays beautifully with plenty of period character.
