**Pierre Cornu (1895–1996)**

A captivating painting of a reclining female figure by the celebrated French colourist Pierre Cornu. Rich in warmth and luminosity, the composition beautifully demonstrates the artist's mastery of colour and light. The work is fully signed and bears the atelier stamp on the reverse.

Born in Salon-de-Provence in southern France, Pierre Cornu developed a distinctive style shaped by the influence of the Fauvist movement and the work of Paul Cézanne and Pierre Bonnard. Like Bonnard, Cornu painted not to document reality but to capture moments of serenity, intimacy, and quiet happiness, creating timeless scenes filled with poetic charm.

Throughout his career, Cornu exhibited regularly in Marseille alongside fellow Provençal artists René Auguste Chabaud and Jean-Baptiste Seyssaud, establishing himself as an important figure in twentieth-century French painting.
