A charming Post-Impressionist depiction of fishing boats resting peacefully in a sunlit harbour on the Mediterranean coast of southern France. Rich in atmosphere and colour, the painting beautifully captures the tranquil character of Provence''s working ports.
 
Born on the Italian Riviera in 1878, Louis Jean Alfred Bonamici became closely associated with the Provence School. He is celebrated for his vibrant harbour scenes, fishing ports, and coastal landscapes, all illuminated by the brilliant southern light. Working in an Impressionistic style, Bonamici employed bold palette-knife techniques and thick impasto to create richly textured surfaces and luminous colour.
 
Between 1907 and 1935, Bonamici exhibited extensively in Paris and throughout southern France. In 1923, he travelled to the United States, where he painted views of California and exhibited his work in San Francisco, Lo...
