Venetian architectural watercolours gained immense popularity during the 18th to early 20th centuries as European Grand Tour travellers sought detailed topographical views of iconic Italian monuments, including St Marks Square and the Doges Palace.

Artists typically utilized natural gum arabic binding media mixed with ground mineral pigments, applied to heavy cotton or linen rag paper to ensure durability and prevent buckling under moisture.

Authentic period pieces often feature graphite underdrawings, subtle age-related foxing or toning on paper edges, contemporary framers labels on the backing board, and period-correct gilding techniques on the frame.

Hang the artwork above a sideboard or console table alongside structured contemporary lighting, or include it within a curated gallery wall to balance traditional subject matter with modern furnishings.

Keep the watercolour framed behind UV-filtering glass, mount it using acid-free matting, and display it away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels to prevent pigment fading and paper degradation.
