Voltz was a german artist working in the animalier style. Born in 1817. He developed the art at a young age. Now considered one of the best German animal painters. Voltz primaliry was a landscape artist until he encountered a Paulius Potter painting of a bull..

He the decided to focus on dipicting animals of all kinds. His work references the Dutch style of mood painting. He often treats his animals subjects as still lifes, allowing him to experiment with dramatic sun filled areas contrasting with areas of cool dark shade.

He died in 1886

His works are held in the Berlin museum among others galleries. 100 cm x 50 cm including frames
