Hispano Moresque ware is a style of Islamic pottery with typical Moorish designs that centered around Malaga, Spain in the 15th century. The lustre ware beautiful imitates metallic finishes with iridescent effects.

Hispano Moresque wares use a process where paint is applied as an over glaze which is then fired again. Lustre ware was a specialty of Islamic pottery as the use of drinking and eating vessels in gold and silver, which was the ideal in Rome and Persia, was forbidden so this lustreware was used as tableware for Muslim elites.

This charger is a fine example and is in excellent condition with great colour and a beautiful lustrous finish.
It is an imposing size measuring 46.5cm in diameter and 5 cms in height.
