This pair of late 19th century Egyptian Revival sphinx sculptures takes the form of recumbent figures modelled after the antique. Each cast iron figure displays a rich black patina and wears a traditional nemes headcloth over defined facial features, posed horizontally with front paws resting flat and a long tail wrapping along the side of the body. The figures are securely mounted upon solid grey marble rectangular bases with clean, straight edges. Individual dimensions measure 12 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 8 cm deep.
