Rare Ww1 Military Issued Black Dial Trench Watch Circa 1916 – Original Military Markings /I\ 25105r

1900 - 1920
Description

Rare WW1 Military Issued Black Dial Trench Watch Circa 1916 – Original Military Markings /I\ 25105R

An original WW1 military issued trench watch dating from circa 1916, featuring a rare black dial and authentic military issue markings. Issue ref no /I\ 25105R. The watch has a 34mm screw-front and screw-back case designed for added protection during active service.

Powered by a recently serviced 15 jewel mechanical movement, the watch is in excellent full working order. The original unrestored black dial is exceptionally well preserved, retaining almost all original luminous paint to the numerals. The watch also appears to retain its original glass crystal.

Complete with full military markings to the case back and fitted on a period-style WW1 leather strap, this is an outstanding collector’s example of an early First World War trench watch.

Perfect for collectors of antique military watches, WW1 trench watches, and early military timepieces.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A trench watch, or wristlet, is a transitional timepiece created during the early twentieth century, specifically adapted for soldiers during the First World War to easily read the time in battle without removing a pocket watch from a pocket.

These timepieces were typically constructed with solid silver, nickel, or gunmetal cases featuring wire lugs soldered to the body, acrylic or mineral glass crystals, and dark enamel or porcelain dials.

Authentic examples feature fixed wire lugs, early Swiss or British mechanical movements, screw-down or hinged case backs, and often bear official military issue markings or broad arrow stampings on the case back or dial.

An antique trench watch can be fitted with a classic leather cuff or NATO strap for daily wear, or mounted in a velvet-lined collector box alongside historical military artefacts.

Preserve the mechanical movement by having it regularly serviced by a professional horologist, avoid exposure to moisture or magnetic fields, and store the item in a temperature-controlled environment.
