Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Camaieu bleu is a monochrome painting technique executed entirely in shades of blue, derived from grisaille which traditionally uses grey tones. Originating in eighteenth-century France, this technique was frequently employed to imitate classical sculpted reliefs or architectural panels.

Eighteenth-century French paintings were predominantly executed in oil paints on hand-woven linen or hemp canvas, stretched over wooden strainers. Natural earth and mineral pigments were ground by hand and mixed with linseed or walnut oil binders.

Authentic period paintings typically exhibit age-appropriate craquelure patterns across the paint surface, hand-stitched canvas seams or hand-cut stretchers, and natural oxidation on the reverse of the linen. Surface inspection under ultraviolet light often reveals historic restorations or varnish layers.

Monochrome paintings integrate well into contemporary spaces due to their limited colour palette. Hanging a grisaille work above a fireplace or console table provides architectural structure without clashing with existing colour schemes.

Keep oil paintings in a climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and direct heat sources. Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding commercial chemical cleaners or water.
