This seventeenth-century Baroque sculpture presents an off-white marble bust of a woman with classical drapery, mounted upon a painted and gilded wooden pedestal decorated with bead moulding and acanthus scrollwork. The weathered stone reveals softened facial features and aged textures, whilst the supporting plinth displays intricate gilt accents against a pale painted finish. Measuring 63.5 cm in height, the piece sits with substantial presence. Positioned atop a sideboard, this decorative work brings historical character into a reception room or hallway. The stone head contrasts with the ornate woodwork of the base, creating a structured composition suitable for traditional interior displays. Collectors of early sculpture will find it fits well within classical or period settings as a focal accent on a surface.

17th-century Baroque busts feature dramatic drapery, textured hairstyles, and expressive pose details, drawing inspiration from classical antiquity while emphasizing movement and naturalism.

Pedestals were typically carved from hardwoods such as oak or beech, then finished with water gilding, painted tempera, or faux-marbling techniques to complement the stone sculpture.

Authentic period carvings exhibit fine hand-tool marks, subtle surface patination from age, hand-cut joinery on wooden bases, and natural wear along high-relief edges.

Place the sculpture atop a minimalist console, inside a library alcove, or on a sideboard where lighting can highlight the textured drapery and classical form.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or natural bristle brush. Avoid water, acidic solutions, or harsh chemical cleaners which erode marble and loosen delicate gilding.
