Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A half tester bedstead is a 19th-century bed design featuring a short canopy extending from the headboard over the top portion of the mattress. Popular during the Victorian era, these frames were engineered to support drapery to reduce draughts and provide privacy.

Authentic period bedsteads typically combine heavy cast brass tubing or brass-sheathed iron with cast iron joints and corner cleats. Decorative elements often incorporated porcelain accents, turned brass finials, and stamped brass scrollwork.

Genuine period pieces feature cast iron dovetail joints on the side rails, hand-threaded bolts, and noticeable weight due to solid metal construction. Stamped manufacturer marks or registration diamonds are frequently located near the corner joints.

Balance the substantial metal frame by dressing the bed in crisp, neutral linen or cotton textiles. Drape light silk or sheer fabric over the upper frame to highlight the architectural height without overpowering contemporary room proportions.

Maintain the original patina by dusting regularly with a microfibre cloth and applying a light coat of natural beeswax polish. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive metal polishes, which can remove protective lacquer or strip historic surface aging.
