Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Howard & Sons sofas are defined by their deep seating profiles, layered coil springs, and high-quality internal stuffing such as horsehair and down feathers. They commonly feature solid hardwood framing and precision-crafted brass castors stamped with the makers mark.

19th-century sofas typically utilize solid hardwood frames, such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, assembled using mortise and tenon joinery. Upholstery layering relies on natural jute webbing, hand-tied steel springs, horsehair padding, and outer cotton or chintz textiles.

Authentic period sofas often display stamped maker marks or serial numbers on the inside of the rear legs, back wooden frame, or brass castors. Original examples may also retain branded ticking fabric on the seat decking under the loose cushions.

A patterned floral sofa serves as a strong visual anchor when placed against modern neutral backdrops or paired with clean-lined timber accent furniture. Combining classical botanical patterns with modern lighting balances traditional heritage with contemporary aesthetics.

Fabric upholstery should be routinely vacuumed using a soft brush attachment and positioned away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading. Wooden legs require occasional application of natural beeswax polish, while brass castors should be kept clean of dust build-up.
