Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This eighteenth-century English country style dresser base is made from solid oak with a light bleached timber finish. The rectangular top rests above three side-by-side drawers fitted with small round brass knob handles, beneath which sits a decorative scalloped apron. The framework is supported by turned columnar legs joined by a continuous stretcher base running along the lower frame. Visible details include horizontal grain patterns across the wooden surfaces, fine edge moulding along the drawer fronts, and cylindrical wooden feet resting directly on the floor. The piece measures 81 cm high, 225 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a dining room, hallway, or living space, it provides surface display space alongside functional drawer storage for household items.

FAQs

An English oak dresser base is a long, low storage cabinet with drawers and legs, originally designed during the 17th and 18th centuries in regional Britain either as a standalone server or as the lower section of a kitchen dresser with a plate rack.

Period dresser bases were constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, fruitwood, or elm using traditional hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, wooden pegs, mortise and tenon framing, and hand-turned or square-cut legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of period craftsmanship, including hand-planed timber surfaces, irregular drawer linings with horizontal grain, original mortise and tenon joinery, and natural wear patterns on the stretchers and feet.

A bleached oak dresser base works effectively as a hall console or dining room sideboard, where its pale timber contrast can be paired with contemporary artwork, oversized ceramic lamps, and minimalist decorative objects.

Maintain bleached oak furniture by dusting regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and applying a neutral, clear beeswax sparingly to protect the unsealed wood grain without altering its natural pale colour.
