Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A monumental 19th century English country house dresser base in pine and brass, finished in a distressed cream paint with a natural scrubbed timber top. The piece measures 92.5 cm high, 315 cm wide and 67.5 cm deep, standing long and low with a thick top surface. Four upper drawers are fitted with brass drop handles, positioned above four sliding panelled cupboard doors. The painted finish shows visible wear and age across the surfaces, and tongue-and-groove boards line the exposed sides. Useful for storage and serving in a large kitchen, dining room or hallway, the piece provides a substantial surface and internal compartment space. Because the back and sides are finished with tongue-and-groove boards, the sideboard functions well positioned centrally within an open plan space rather than only against a wall.

FAQs

A country house dresser base is a wide, low storage cabinet historically used in large estate kitchens and dining areas for preparing food and storing tableware.

These pieces were primarily constructed from solid pine or timber boards, often featuring scrubbed wooden tops, hand-cut dovetail drawers, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic period examples exhibit signs of historical age such as hand-planed surfaces, traditional joinery, natural wear to the paint finish, and scrubbed timber top surfaces.

A substantial dresser base works effectively as an expansive sideboard in a dining room, hallway, or open-plan kitchen, paired with contemporary artwork or large ceramics displayed on top.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that could strip original paint layers. Apply clear beeswax sparingly to exposed natural timber sections to preserve the wood.
