We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century floral still life paintings often combined botanical precision with romantic lighting and rich colour palettes. Influenced by earlier Dutch traditions, artists focused on capturing varied textures, natural bloom arrangements, and classical vessels using oil pigments on canvas or panel.

Paintings from this era were typically executed using natural oil pigments mixed with drying oils on stretched linen canvas or solid timber boards. Frames were constructed from carved wood, lined with gesso, and finished with thin layers of gold leaf gilding.

Authentic period works show age-appropriate craquelure across the paint layer, natural darkening or oxidisation on the reverse of the canvas, and hand-cut wooden stretcher bars. Signatures, artist labels, and hand-carved frame construction further indicate genuine age.

Position the painting as a focal point above a mantelpiece or console table, allowing the ornate gilded frame to contrast against simple, neutral wall tones. Alternatively, integrate the piece into a salon-style gallery wall surrounded by mixed media for a layered aesthetic.

Dust the painting and frame gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush. Avoid using water, household detergents, or chemical solvents, and display the artwork away from direct sunlight, open flames, and rooms with fluctuating humidity levels.
