Peter Harris Clocks & Militaria has dated this Indian Brass Dhal Shield to the 19th Century.
Of convex form with four domed bosses, the surface is extensively decorated with finely engraved and punched foliate scrollwork and circular reserves, typical of Indo-Persian inspired ornament produced in North Indian workshops.

The reverse retains its suspension rings and a later fabric backing pad, with cord straps now present. The shield shows honest surface wear and patination, consistent with age, and remains an attractive display piece.

Condition Report:
• General surface wear, rubbing and patination throughout
• No visible splits or structural damage to the body
• Reverse pad and cord are later replacements
• Fixings appear secure, with expected age-related wear

• Some minor surface marks and light tarnishing.
