A banjo barometer is a type of domestic weather-measuring instrument housed in a distinctive, elongated wooden case shaped roughly like a banjo, which became popular in British homes during the 19th century.

These instruments typically feature cases crafted from dense hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or rosewood, combined with brass bezels, glass dials, and paper or enamel weather scales.

Authenticity is usually determined by examining the timber grain, hand-carved detailing, makers signature on the dial face, and traditional hand-blown glass or early mechanical components rather than modern plastics.

Positioning the instrument on a neutral wall in a study, hallway, or living room allows its traditional craftsmanship and rich wooden tones to serve as a sophisticated focal point.

Preservation involves keeping the instrument away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent timber warping, while cleaning the wooden case periodically with a soft, dry cloth.
