Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An aneroid banjo barometer is a wall-mounted instrument shaped like a banjo that measures atmospheric pressure using a small, flexible metal box called an aneroid cell rather than liquid mercury. Popularised in the 19th and early 20th centuries, these instruments often combined a barometer dial with an integral thermometer within a decorative wooden casing.

Edwardian banjo barometers were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, often accented with delicate satinwood or boxwood marquetry inlay. The functional components feature brass bezels, glass covers, and silvered metal dials engraved with atmospheric pressure readings.

Authentic Edwardian pieces from the early 1900s feature neo-classical design motifs such as urns, bow swags, and fine string inlay on the wooden casing. They also display silvered brass dials with period typography and age-appropriate oxidisation on the metal elements.

Mount the instrument on a narrow wall space, in a hallway, or within a gallery wall arrangement to add architectural interest. The dark timber finish pairs effectively with neutral panelling, dark paint tones, or period interior schemes.

Keep the instrument away from direct heat sources and damp conditions to prevent the timber case from warping or the marquetry from lifting. Dust the wooden case using a dry microfibre cloth and clean the glass dial cover with a soft cloth.
