Jacobean Revival Carved Oak Triple-door Wardrobe

1900 - 1920
Description

A substantial and finely crafted Jacobean Revival carved oak wardrobe of imposing architectural form, the case of generous proportions and rectangular outline, surmounted by a projecting cornice enriched with a continuous frieze of scrolling foliate ornament punctuated by applied roundels. The upper section of each door is boldly decorated with deeply moulded geometric panels centred by raised diamond motifs and carved bosses, the central door further distinguished by additional foliate carving within the field. The interplay of recessed and projecting elements creates a strong sense of depth and rhythm across the façade, while the rich mid-brown finish enhances the natural grain and warmth of the timber.

The lower sections of the three doors are arranged with a series of fielded rectangular panels framed by substantial mouldings, lending balance to the more elaborate carving above. Brass handles of traditional form provide a restrained contrast to the decorative timberwork. The wardrobe stands on turned bun feet above a moulded plinth, reinforcing its solid and confident stance and reflecting the revivalist interpretation of early 17th-century English design.

The interior is thoughtfully configured for practical use in keeping with late 19th- or early 20th-century manufacture. One compartment opens to reveal a full-width hanging space fitted with a rail beneath a fixed upper shelf, suitable for longer garments. The opposing section is arranged with a series of open shelves above three graduated drawers, each fitted with recessed brass pulls, offering ample storage for folded clothing and accessories. The inside of the left-hand door is inset with a full-length mirror.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
