Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 20th-century British watercolour portraiture often features intimate interior scenes, fluid brushwork, and soft tonal palettes. Artists during this period frequently captured quiet domestic moments, combining realistic figurative drawing with impressionistic washes of colour.

Antique watercolours were typically executed on heavy cotton rag paper using water-soluble pigments derived from ground minerals and natural dyes. These works were mounted behind glazing within carved timber and gesso frames finished with leaf gilding.

Authentic period watercolours often display natural age toning on the paper, distinct artist signatures in pencil or paint, and period framing with wood backing boards. The pigment shows subtle layering and paper texture under close examination rather than halftone dot printing.

A framed antique watercolour can be hung above a timber sideboard or mantelpiece to create a focal point in a contemporary room. Pairing classical artwork with clean modern furniture and subtle directional lighting highlights the detail of the gilded frame.

To preserve watercolour paintings, display them away from direct sunlight and harsh artificial light to prevent fading. Ensure the frame utilizes UV-protective glass and acid-free mounting materials while maintaining a stable indoor humidity level.
