Gents Tissot Seastar Wrist Watch, 1961.

1940 - 1960
Description

Gents Tissot Seastar wrist watch, 1961.

The watch has a 17 jewel calibre 781 hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 4,897,166 which dates it back to 1961.

The watch is a good wearable size at 35mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition, just a little scratching to the back but not too detrimental at all. The inside of the case back is signed with the Tissot logo. Signed Tissot winding crown.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial has some age related marking, and has probably gone a little warmer in colour. Original hands, seconds sweep and outer minute markers.

The watch comes on a stainless steel non-Tissot bracelet but the clasp is genuine Tissot. The watch currently fits an 18.5cm wrist although there is capacity on the clasp to make it about 1.5cm smaller.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in the mid-twentieth century, the Tissot Seastar series was developed as a reliable, water-resistant wrist watch line designed for everyday use and durability.

Timepieces from this period typically feature stainless steel or gold-plated cases, acrylic crystals, brass movement components, and steel or leather straps.

Authentic pieces feature correct brand typography on the dial, serial numbers stamped on the movement or inner case back, and Swiss-made markings at the base of the dial.

A classic stainless steel watch with a patinated dial pairs easily with formal tailored suits as well as casual knitwear and denim for contemporary daily wear.

Mechanical movements require professional servicing by a watchmaker every three to five years, along with protection from moisture, magnetic fields, and severe impact.
