Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian mahogany tallboy, also known as a chest-on-chest, is a two-part storage cabinet originating in the 18th century. It features a upper chest mounted on top of a slightly wider lower chest, designed to maximise vertical floor space while providing extensive drawer capacity.

Primary exteriors were constructed using dense timbers such as mahogany or walnut, often featuring figured or flame veneers. Secondary timbers for internal drawer linings traditionally included oak or pine, joined with hand-cut dovetails and fitted with cast brass handles.

Authentic George III tallboys demonstrate hand-planed timber surfaces, uneven hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, and secondary oak or pine linings showing natural shrinkage. Original period pieces also exhibit signs of wear along the drawer runners and authentic brass fixings.

A tallboy serves as a striking focal point when set against neutral or contemporary wall finishes. Its substantial height makes it suitable for bedrooms, dressing rooms, or wide hallways where maximum storage is required within a compact footprint.

Preserve the wood finish by applying a quality beeswax polish twice a year and buffing with a soft cloth. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources such as radiators and out of harsh direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and fading.
