Beautiful Japanese Meiji (late 19thc) Silvered Bronze Statue Of The Holy Kannon Bodhisattva, Takamura Koun

Superb Japanese Meiji (late 19thC) silvered bronze statue of the Holy Kannon Bodhisattva by Takamura Koun (1852-1934). A fine casting with lovely detail and lovely finish. The Bodhisattva of mercy and compassion, elegantly sculpted, stands on a circular base, holding in her left hand a gold patinated lotus bud stalk, her hair piled into a tall topknot and adorned with the hokan (jewelled crown). She is wearing a johaku (decorative scarf) draped diagonally from her left shoulder, spreading out across the right side of her abdomen, the folds of the garment softly rendered. The base of the figure is signed by the artist in a seal. Original signed box. 39cm high x by 11cm diameter (base), weight 2.8kg.
 
Excellent condition and patina.
 
Kannon, the bodhisattva of compassion, is one of the most popular and frequently depicted deities in Japanese Buddhism. Kannon grants deliverance from suffering to anyone who calls upon his name.
