This nineteenth-century antique French double bed frame follows the Louis XV style and uses solid walnut finished in a deep brown colour. The composition includes an arched headboard decorated with elaborate rocaille carving and scrollwork cresting, accompanied by a matching low footboard with scrolled panelling and two tall, shaped side posts displaying ornate floral and scroll reliefs. The timber reveals natural grain variations and a polished dark wood sheen throughout all visible sections. The structure measures 152 cm high, 158 cm wide, and 220 cm deep, and accommodates a standard UK 4'6" wide double mattress. In a contemporary home, this bed serves as a striking focal point in a master bedroom or guest suite, offering a traditional European aesthetic. The substantial carved elements and serpentine lines complement both classic and eclectic bedroom interiors, bringing historic character and architectural presence to a sleeping space.

FAQs

Louis XV style furniture originates from 18th-century France and is characterised by Rococo design elements, including serpentine outlines, asymmetrical carvings, shell motifs, and curved cabriole silhouettes.

High-quality French Rococo furniture was predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as walnut, oak, fruitwood, and beech, often selected for their strength and fine grain suitable for intricate hand-carving.

Authentic period pieces feature signs of hand-carving with subtle irregularities, hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, genuine timber aging, and natural oxidation within deep carved recessed areas.

Balance the visual weight of dark carved walnut by pairing the bed frame with neutral linen bedding, contemporary lighting, and soft paint tones, allowing the elaborate woodwork to serve as a focal point.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically along the grain. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent wood shrinkage or cracking.
