Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian era, spanning the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated symmetry, and a heavy reliance on imported hardwoods such as mahogany as trade routes expanded globally.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, solid timber drawer linings, and cast brass handles secured with handmade fixings.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetailing, signs of age-related timber shrinkage, original secondary woods like pine or oak on the interior elements, and consistent wear patterns around the key escutcheons and handles.

A traditional chest provides a grounding anchor in a contemporary space; pair it with minimal abstract artwork above, a modern ceramic lamp, or contrasting clean-lined seating to balance the historical weight of the dark wood.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, avoid silicone-based polishes, and periodically apply microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the polished surface.
