Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This nineteenth-century pair of oil on canvas paintings by Clarence Henry Roe depicts wooded glens and waterfalls in North Wales, presented within elaborate giltwood and gesso swept frames adorned with acanthus leaf moulding. The composition features earthy brown woodland, rocky river scenery, and rich golden tones across both the detailed canvas works and their heavy ornamental surrounds. Each piece measures 59 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 7 cm deep. Suitable for traditional interior schemes, this artwork works well positioned above a sideboard in a dining room, living area, or hallway. The Victorian aesthetic complements classic country house settings, bringing historical British landscape art into domestic spaces.

FAQs

Victorian landscape art emphasised naturalism, atmospheric lighting, and accurate topography, frequently focusing on wild locations across Wales, Scotland, and the Lake District.

Artists used oil-based pigments applied to woven linen canvas, which was stretched over wooden frames and set into cast gesso and giltwood mouldings.

Authentic pieces feature age-consistent craquelure across the paint surface, natural oxidisation on the canvas back, original timber stretchers, and period frame construction.

Positioning traditional landscape paintings above a sideboard, console table, or mantelpiece provides visual balance, creating dynamic texture when paired with clean contemporary furnishings.

Dust canvas and gilded frames using a dry, soft-bristled brush, avoid water or chemical solvents, and maintain stable ambient humidity away from direct sunlight.
