Landscape Oil Painting by Edward Price 1800-1885

A fine oil on canvas landscape painting titled: a view from Froggatt Edge, Derbyshire, by the artist Edward Price 1800-1885. A superb piece of landscape painting in the realist tradition, with an exquisite eye to detail. The work is in excellent condition, having been professionally cleaned, and is signed and dated 1870. Edward Price was a specialist landscape painter, particularly of mountainous landscapes. He was an assistant and student of John Glover. He exhibited at The Royal Academy, the British Institute and at The Society of British Artists, all landscape works including views in Wales, England, Scotland and Norway. His addresses were London and Lichfield where he was likely born. This is an excellent example of his work and bears an inscription by the artist on the reverse, locating the view and the date. The painting retains the original gilt frame which is also in excellent untouched condition. The whole is a great example of landscape painting from the nineteenth century and is ready to hang.
