FAQs

An okimono is a traditional Japanese decorative statue typically displayed in a tokonoma alcove or on a shelf, popularised during the Meiji period.

Craftsmen predominantly used bronze, cast iron, shibuichi, and various copper alloys, often employing lost-wax casting techniques and intricate chiselling.

Authentic pieces often feature natural patination, fine hand-chiselled details, artisan signature plaques or seals, and substantial weight consistent with early casting methods.

These sculptures serve as striking focal points when placed on bookshelves, sideboards, or mantelpieces, contrasting effectively against minimalist backgrounds.

Preserve the patina by dusting gently with a soft, dry brush and avoiding abrasive cleaners, polishes, or moisture that can damage the historical surface finish.
