Japanese Meiji (early 20thC) bronze okimono of Ebiisu, one of the Seven Lucky Gods. 23.5cm high x 15cm wide x 13cm deep, weight 3.75kg.

Ebisu is the Japanese god of fishermen, luck, and prosperity, a unique member of Japan''s Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin) with purely native origins, often depicted as a smiling fisherman with a fishing rod, a large sea bream (tai), and a tall hat (kazaori-eboshi). He''s a patron of tradesmen, especially in the food industry, symbolising good fortune, diligence and abundance from the sea.
