Depiction or Location: A finely executed late-19th to early-20th century British watercolour depicting a rural landscape with figures, rendered with subtle tonal control and an excellent sense of distance and atmosphere. The restrained palette and careful handling of farmland and sky are characteristic of the English East Anglian school.
The work is signed “Henry Bailey” and attributed to Henry Bailey (1851–1933), an established British watercolourist who exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. Bailey was also a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club and worked extensively in Essex and Suffolk.
