FAQs

Victorian landscape oil paintings often depicted the natural beauty of the British countryside, reflecting the periods romantic fascination with the pastoral and picturesque.

Artists of this era typically used oil paints applied to canvas or wood panels, housed in heavily moulded, composition-ornamented gilt wooden frames.

Authenticity is assessed through examination of the canvas age, craquelure in the oil paint, artist signatures, and the construction methods and patination of the gilt frame.

Pairing traditional gilt-framed artworks with minimalist modern walls creates a striking focal point, balancing historic character with clean interior lines.

Preserve oil paintings by keeping them away from direct sunlight, maintaining stable temperature and humidity levels, and cleaning canvases professionally without water or harsh chemicals.
