Animalier refers to the 19th-century artistic movement focusing on the realistic portrayal of animals, particularly wild animals and domestic dogs, popularized in France.

These pieces were typically cast using the lost-wax method or sand-casting method in bronze, often featuring a chemically induced patina ranging from dark brown to green.

Authenticity is evaluated through the quality of the casting, the presence of an artists signature or foundry marks, crisp detailing in the fur and features, and natural age-related patina on the bronze.

They can be displayed as focal points on mantelpieces, desks, or bookcases, contrasting effectively against minimalist architectural backdrops and modern joinery.

Preservation involves dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to protect the patina, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners entirely.
