Description

A classic Parisian winter street scene by Édouard Cortès, titled La Madeleine, depicting figures and motor cars moving through snow-covered streets beneath softly glowing shopfronts. The composition is animated by Cortès’ masterful handling of light and reflection, with warm interior illumination contrasting against the cool tones of the winter atmosphere. Architectural detail and lively street activity combine to create a richly atmospheric and highly decorative work.

Oil on canvas, signed lower right, and presented in a richly carved gilt frame with an original titled artist’s plaque. The painting is in very good condition and represents an excellent example of Cortès’ sought-after Paris scenes.
