A Chinese Late 19th C Stone Carving of a Man Feeding Geese

A most unusual late 19th century Chinese hand carved figure group with a traditionally dressed elderly man wearing a robed tunic and a square shaped hat. He has long hair and a beard, and he is sitting feeding two Asian geese.

This carved sculpture has been created from a single block of russet coloured soapstone, which is similar to marble but is of a softer nature which carves relatively easily, giving good detail.

This particular carving has developed a lovely dark age related patina over the reddish toned stone.

The carving is in excellent original condition with no damage or repair.
