Mughal School Original Gouache Painting Shah Jahan

Description

This is a very elegant and meticulously painted portrait of Shah Jahan. The Mughal portrait is in strong gouache colours and dates from the mid 19th Century. The Shah, dressed in all hi finery and resplendent in headdress and pearl adornments is presented in an oval frame, meticulously hand painted with beautifully detailed decoration around the oval and above and below.

Shah Jahan I, also called Shah Jahan the Magnificent, was the Emperor of the Mughal Empire from 1628 until his deposition in 1658. As the fifth Mughal emperor, his reign marked the zenith of Mughal architectural and cultural achievements.

The portrait is presented in smart solid oak frame which suits the painting well. It measures 34 cms by 24 cms.
