Prometheus Antiques has dated this Regency Painted Silhouette Portrait to the Regency era.
The work was created by the famous silhouette portraitist Charles Rosenberg of Bath, he was painter to the nobility and thought to be of Austrian origin having arrived in this country with the entourage of Queen Charlotte. Rosenberg eventually settled in Bath running a very successful business creating likenesses of the great and good who arrived in the city for the summer season. The silhouette is in excellent condition retaining the original mount and frame which just has the odd nibble around the edge. The reverse of the frame has information regarding the sitter as well as the original trade label of Rosenberg. The whole is an excellent example of a Regency period silhouette. C.1800.
