Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The William IV style bridges the Regency period and early Victorian eras, typically spanning from 1830 to 1837. It is characterised by robust proportions, classical influences, and a heavy reliance on rich timbers such as rosewood and mahogany, often featuring modest scroll carvings and architectural elements.

Pieces from this era were constructed using solid native and exotic hardwoods, frequently employing dense rosewood veneers over pine or oak carcases. Traditional joinery methods such as dovetailing, mortise and tenon joints, and hand-turned wooden components were standard.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction, including hand-cut dovetails, older secondary woods like oak or deal, and traditional French polish finishes. Look for characteristic design motifs such as scrolled pediments, reeded columns, and brass or silk grillwork on cabinet doors.

A traditional chiffonier serves as a functional statement piece in contemporary living spaces, dining rooms, or hallways. It can be paired with neutral walls and minimalist modern decor to highlight the rich grain and historical character of the wood.

Rosewood furniture should be kept away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the wood and veneers from drying out or splitting. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the surface without building up residue.
