Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Provincial chest of drawers from 1900 is made from oak, marble and brass. The body has a grey painted finish with a clear wax coating and a slight shabby appearance, paired with a variegated red marble top. Detailed inspection reveals carved foliate swags, central round medallions on each of the three drawers, brass swan-neck handles with matching escutcheons, and shaped cabriole legs at the base. Measuring 94 cm high, 118 cm wide and 59 cm deep, the unit fits well in a bedroom, hallway or living area as a functional storage chest with display space on top. The design suits period interiors and French chateau-style rooms in contemporary homes.

FAQs

The Louis XV style in cabinetry is characterised by gentle curves, asymmetry, serpentined drawer fronts, cabriole legs, and naturalistic carved ornament such as foliage, scrolls, and central medallions.

These pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames such as oak or fruitwood, fitted with carved decorative panelwork, cast brass or bronze handles, and topped with thick, slab-cut variegated marble.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, thick oak drawer linings, hand-forged or cast brass hardware, and heavy backboards secured with traditional joinery rather than modern screws.

A painted commode serves as a focal piece in hallways, living areas, or bedrooms by providing structured contrast against plain walls, complementary linen textiles, and contemporary minimalist artwork.

Clean the marble surface using a soft cloth and pH-neutral stone cleaner to avoid etching, while dusting painted timber surfaces with a dry microfiber cloth away from direct heat sources.
