Culvertons has dated this piece to the 1880s.
Looking at their construction and appealing patina, I feel that they were cast close to the date of their conception. These powerful studies particularly appeal to me because they fall squarely within French Realism, a movement that shunned the romantic and the classical, to focus on accurate and gritty depictions of everyday life and the working class. These attractive studies in bronze will sit comfortably in a period or contemporary setting.
