Description

Here’s a lovely old pine sleigh bed with gracefully shaped sides and plenty of traditional charm. It appears to have been originally painted but has since been stripped and wax finished. The finish is in good condition, though I can refresh and re-wax it for you if preferred.

At present, there are no slats included, but these can easily be provided if required.

Available for £300 as it is (without slats), or £397 if you’d like it re-waxed and supplied with new slats.

The bed separates into four sections for easy delivery and assembly.

Dimensions: height 39.5" at the head, width 42", length 77.5" (mattress space 189 cm x 100 cm). The mattress doesn’t need to be that exact size — it can be slightly smaller or fit snugly. If you need help sourcing a custom-sized mattress, we can recommend a reliable supplier.

Height : 100 cm at the head, width is 107 cm, length is 197 cm

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Sleigh beds originated in the early 19th century during the French Empire and American Classical periods, heavily influenced by the curved lines of ancient Roman and Greek daybeds.

These beds are typically constructed from solid yellow or white pine, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and turned wooden spindle legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as hand-planed surfaces, irregular grain patterns, oxidised iron fixings, and shrinkage cracks rather than uniform machine milling.

Pair the natural wood warmth with neutral linens, textured throws, and minimalist bedside tables to balance the substantial visual weight of the curved headboard and footboard.

Maintain pine furniture by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood.
