Born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1868, Rigg studied at Bradford College of Art then at Academie Julian in Paris. His attractive open air scenes were in the manner of French late-nineteenth century painting. He exhibited at RA, RBA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and elsewhere, working in many parts of England. He was a member of the Staithes Group and later lived for a time in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, the subject of this painting.
An oil on board measuring 12'' x 16'' it is signed lower right and is framed giving an overall size of 18''x 22''.
