To preserve antique walnut, maintain a stable indoor humidity between 40 and 50 percent, keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and apply microcrystalline wax sparingly to nourish the timber.

A substantial antique case piece adds warmth and historical contrast when placed against neutral modern walls, serving as a focal point in a bedroom or hallway while pairing effectively with minimalist decor.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction markers such as hand-cut dovetails, wooden drawer runners, hand-forged iron nails, brass drop handles with backplates appropriate to the era, and natural timber shrinkage over centuries.

Master cabinetmakers typically utilised solid oak for interior carcases and drawer linings, veneered with figured walnut, and embellished with delicate herringbone stringing and cross-banding, joined using hand-cut dovetails.

The George I style, spanning from 1714 to 1727, is characterised by architectural proportions, the transition from walnut to mahogany as a primary wood, and refined minimalism with understated carved details such as shell motifs.
